Wave Adaptive Suspension for a Smoother, More Level Ride
The Advantages of WAM-V Technology
If you’re using conventional boats for applications such as hydrographic surveys, maritime infrastructure inspections, or maritime security and defense, make the switch to a WAM-V. You’ll benefit from a more stable platform and better quality of data capture, especially in higher sea states.
Stability
As sea states worsen, excessive pitch and roll quickly limits a conventional boat's ability to gather data. Compared to similar sized monohulls and rigid catamarans, a WAM-V experiences reduced pitch and roll. Sensors and instruments continue to function across a wider range of environments for increased quality of data capture.
Scalability
The WAM-V’s unique design works on many scales and can be designed and built to match specific applications. Marine Advanced Robotics has designed, tested, manufactured, and delivered WAM-Vs in lengths from 8 to 33 feet — along with a 50-foot POF (proof of feasibility) and the 100-foot technology demonstrator Proteus.
Modularity
WAM-V subassemblies use standardized quick connect interfaces for rapid assembly and disassembly, component replacement, reconfiguring, and future upgrades.
Payload packages and instrument packages can be swapped in minutes.
Propulsion systems can be reconfigured by changing engine pods.
Maneuverability
The WAM-V 16 is the most maneuverable autonomous surface vessel (ASV) available. Capable of turning 360 degrees in its own length, the WAM-V 16 makes quick speed and course corrections, allowing it to have the best on-track performance on the market.
Transportability
WAM-Vs can be shipped easily and economically by land, air, or sea. Transport the WAM-V by trailer, or ship it using standard air freight. Launch it from the deck of a larger vessel, or assemble and launch it from shore. The modular design quickly reduces in size for storage or shipment.
Optional folding features reduce the footprint by as much as 75%. A 20-foot container can hold four WAM-V 16s. Only one conventional 18-foot RIB fits inside the same container and must first be deflated.
That’s Really Cool…Now Tell Me More!
Patented proprietary technology sets the WAM-V apart from conventional boats and other autonomous vehicles.
The WAM-V's flexible structure adapts and conforms to the surface of the water, resulting in an exceptionally smooth and level platform.
Inflatable hulls help absorb motion and force.
Hinged to the hulls are two engine pods that keep the propellers in the water at all times, further improving vehicle stability and controllability.
The 2:1 length-to-beam ratio and articulating suspension system make the WAM-V an exceptionally stable and maneuverable vessel.
The articulating system uses springs, shocks, and ball joints to minimize structural loading. The result is an ultra-light, modular vessel that can perform in sea conditions where an ordinary boat of similar size could no longer operate.
The incredibly shallow draft and arches contribute to the gantry crane functionality.
