Job Title

Marine ASV (Autonomous Surface Vehicle) Technician
This is a full-time position located onsite in Richmond, California.

The Role

We are seeking a marine ASV technician who is passionate about the ocean and looking to have an impact on how people understand and explore this critical habitat. Your mechanical aptitude and boating experience will be key to your success in this role. Your work will be vital to the future of marine robotics and will contribute to solving some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. Buckle up – it’s going to be a fun ride.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the operations manager, you will be a key member of the RaaS (Robotics as a Service) team. You will also assist in prototyping, production, and testing of uncrewed systems. You will work closely with the engineering team. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Perform crewed and uncrewed vessel operation and maintenance in domestic and international locations

  • Ensure the entire RaaS fleet is properly maintained and ready for deployment

  • Global remote or in-person customer support

  • Build mechanical assemblies from both detailed (production) drawings as well as back-of-the-envelope (prototype) drawings

  • Prepare as-built drawings, packing lists, and QC-related documentation

  • Perform QC on third-party and in-house components and assemblies

  • Test mechanical assemblies

  • Follow operational and manufacturing best practices for the marine environment and robotics systems

  • Design, set up, and maintain dedicated workstations, manufacturing jigs, and tools

  • Maintain, clean, and organize shop, inventory, crewed vessel(s) and yard areas.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Boating experience, to include a minimum of 5 years at sea experience

  • Willingness to study for and obtain a California boating license, if you don’t already have one

  • Approximately 3 years of hands-on experience with mechanical and low voltage systems

  • Proficiency with small hand and power tools

  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical assemblies on a boat

  • Knowledge of best practices in boat maintenance (such as marine corrosion)

  • Ability to work with minimal direction while knowing when to ask for input or help

  • Positive and hardworking attitude; ability to function well with a team and remain calm under pressure

Desired Qualifications

  • Electrical and electromechanical assembly build-out and testing

  • Experience with machine tools (mill, lathe, etc.)

  • Experience TIG or MIG welding aluminum

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, marine engineering, or a related field
